Soldering is a process of joining two or more pieces of metal using a metal alloy in the form of a flux coated rod, wire or powder whose melting temperature is lower than the metal being joined.

Hard soldering is sometimes referred to as low temperature brazing. Soft soldering uses very low melting point solder alloys usually of tin and lead.

All of the non ferrous metals such as gold, silver, copper bases or bronze have a relatively high melting point and can be soldered with gold or silver.
